Over the years I advised the people I have worked with to not wait till opening happens to move into your next role. Today in the Wall Street Journal there is an excellent article about taking the steps to influence your next raise rather than waiting for performance review season. “Why Now is a Good Time to Ask for a Raise” lays out excellent advice on how to communicate what you bring to the company and shows you what homework to do to prepare for the conversation. It has been a long, long time since the country has been in as an inflationary environment as it is today. The days of 2.5% to 3% raises will be out the window for a while, especially for prepared top performers who have options in this tight labor market.
